Rubyconf 2008

Belgium is known all over the world for its beer, its chocolate and its rain. You gotta love the beer and the chocolate, but the rain just plain sucks. Looks like we are heading for a wet autumn though, and that's why, for one week in November, we of XaoP are fleeing off to Orlando in sunny Florida.
We are not going to Orlando to spend a hole week at Disney World though; we'd wish (actually, I dont; long story...) There is something much more exciting going on in Orlando in November: Rubyconf 2008. Are we geeks or what?
Attending a Ruby conference is nothing special these days. Ruby conferences are sprouting up all over the place. Rubyconf, however, is still the one and only, original, you-gotta-love-it Ruby conference. It has Matz and all!
This year's program is very exciting again. Here are some of the topics we are looking forward to:
- Fear of Programming
- Mixing Metaphors or; How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love JavaScript
- Ramaze: The underrated Web Application Framework
- How Ruby Can Be Fast: A Tour of Dynamic VM Technologies
- Ruby 1.9: What to Expect
- Simplifying Desktop Development with Glimmer
- JRuby: What, Why, How...Try It Now
- Scaling Ruby (without the Rails)
- Advanced DSLs in Ruby
- Seattle.rb Rocks!
After all this, it'll be tough returning to Belgium's autumns showers.
